 BRAIDWOOD

Braidwood is located 300km south-west of Sydney and halfway between Canberra  and Batemans Bay on the Kings Highway.

Braidwood is a good base from which to explore the unspoilt beaches of the South Coast of NSW or visit the surrounding National Parks.

Braidwood sits on the south-east edge of the Southern Tablelands about an hour's drive from Goulburn or Canberra and approx. 40/50 minutes from Batemans Bay.

 

SERVICES TO BRAIDWOOD

DRIVING

From Sydney follow the Hume Highway to Goulburn, then take State Route 79 direct to Braidwood.

From Canberra follow the King's Highway from Queanbeyan direct to Braidwood.

From Batemans Bay take the Kings Highway over Clyde Mountain.

OTHER TRANSPORT

The nearest railway stations are Tarago 45km and Bungendore 48km, both on the Canberra line. Goulburn is further at 82km where Melbourne trains travel through as well so there is more choice.

Murray's Coaches run daily services between Bateman's Bay and Canberra, once each way, through Braidwood. Enquire 132251.

There are no air services to Braidwood.

 

 

WITHIN BRAIDWOOD

 

Within Braidwood there are no local buses except the School Bus, and no taxis.


 

WHAT TO DO IN and AROUND BRAIDWOOD

 

 

Braidwood, Nerriga, Mongarlowe, Araluen and Majors Creek offer you a unique opportunity to meander at your leisure through villages where Australian history has been made.

Grand examples of 19th century buildings abound in Braidwood's main street, while 1950s workers' cottages are sprinkled throughout the side streets and in the surrounding villages. 
 

Take a scenic drive to the National Parks that surround Braidwood like the Deua, Budawang, Morton, Monga and Tallaganda National Parks.

They offer the visitor an abundance of bush walks and picnic spots. Beautiful pristine rivers are accessible for fishing, swimming and white-water rafting, and some of our country retreats offer horse riding as an extra activity.

Natural geographic attractions such as the Big Hole, Marble Arch, Bendethera and Wyanbene caves in the Deua National Park, Oallen Ford near Nerriga, Mt Budawang in the Budawang National Park, and the rare fauna and flora in the Monga National Park.
